Back to Phnom Penh possible death by car
Time to head back to Phnom Penh. Kat has language class and I need some sleep! So this taxi (Lexus) picked us up at 7:15 for our 5-6 hour ride back to Phnom Penh. OMGOSH. What a ride. First of all I will never complain again about IDOT and road work again. So you have a two lane road, sort of. They have torn 1/2 of it torn up the entire way because they are turning it into highway Khmer style. It will eventually be 4 lanes maybe. They never really finish anything so it's hard to tell. So there is some pavement mostly dirt, tons of potholes, and water pipes everywhere. They just took over everyone's front yard to do it. There is water everywhere. Now add the traffic. Millions of motos, giant trucks hauling everything, like semi-size. Vans piled with everything including a moto hanging out the back or sometimes tied on top. Rick shaws full of things headed to market. Get the picture? People are going down the wrong side of the road as usual. Chickens and dogs are everywhere. Let me back up. There are no seat belts in the back because the driver has cut them out. We pull into a gas station because we assume he needs gas. He gets out of the car LEAVING IT RUNNING, with us in the back seat locked in with child proof locks. I'm sure. Then fills it with gas, gallons of gas. I thought we were going to die. That was nothing compared to his driving.
Back up again, I woke up with an upset stomach. I thought: oh no! I cannot be sick the entire way I do not do public bathrooms in a foreign country. It was probably because we didn't eat dinner the night before just ate popcorn at the Circus (too tired). So I am hoping it was just the bag of caramel corn and bag of kettle corn... that is the problem. PLEASE Lord don't let me be sick my last day I've made it this far! Then this guy stared driving. We were in the back seat. I don't usually get car sick. I can sew, read, cross stitch everything in the car. This guy drove about 80 mph. on and off the road, around trucks, passing on the right and left, honking at motos, like a maniac. There was 5.5 hours of this. I was so car sick it was all I could do not to lose it. Now it was only 150 miles he drove at least 80 I'm not sure why it took 5.5 hours but it was the longest ride of my life. I really should have sat in the front seat if I wasn't so afraid of dying. I was never so glad to see Kat's house in my life.
She headed off to language class and I decided to take a nap. I laid down at 12 and woke up when she came home at 5:30. We went to the mall and had Dominos. She had sushi. We were home by 8 I was back in bed by 8:15 and slept until noon the next day. I. was. tired. I'm wondering if it took 2 weeks for jet lag to set in!
The sushi place she ate at had an ipad at every table that you ordered from and a little high speed train delivered it to your table. I think I have a picture down below.
