Back in Cambodia! June 2019
It’s been several days since I arrived, Kat has kept me so busy I haven’t had a moment to get my thoughts down! I am exhausted to say the least, let me tell you why.
June 16, Sunday :
Kat’s best friend Jordan and I flew ahead of the team that was coming from our church. We wanted a few days with Kat before the team arrived. Randy is leading a missions team from Lake City Church at the same time I am here. Yes, separate vacations in the same city. I am staying with Kat and Randy is at an hotel downtown. We left Spokane at 8:30, catching an earlier flight than planned. We felt is was better waiting in Seattle for 4 hours rather than the Spokane airport. Best money I ever spent was joining the Alaska Lounge. So we hung out in the Alaska Lounge to kill time before heading over to the International terminal to catch our flight. Pretty uneventful 13 hour flight. Watched several movies while Jordan slept:) We chose an aisle and a window seat, hoping no one would sit between us. The plane was totally full except for one seat... yep between us! We couldn’t believe how we lucked out. We arrived in Taipei, Taiwan at about 4:00 in the morning. Not a good time to be in the Taipei Airport. Nothing open, we couldn’t even find a bottle of water. The vending machines only worked with Taiwan money and Taiwan credit. Finally about 6 things started to open up. We got coffee and tea and some breakfast food. Well it wasn’t exactly breakfast food, it was a lemon tart, but it’s the only thing I could recognize. We did get two meals on the plane so it wasn’t as if we were starving to death, just thirsty. Survived our 4 hour layover and caught out flight to Phnom Penh. Next time I am spending the extra money and flying through Korea, that is one cool airport. We had a three hour flight to Phnom Penh, complete with a meal since it was an international flight. Arrived in PP right on time at 11:30 a.m. and breezed through customs. Kat was waiting for us with a PassApp driver, in a very small car. Jordan and I each had 2 huge suitcases carrying medical supplies, stuff for kids camp and our own stuff. We had suitcases in the trunk, in the back seat, in the front seat and the 3 of us in a Camry. Kat had a staycation planned for us so we didn’t all three have to sleep in her bed. So we headed to the hotel. An amazing hotel (of course it was, she was using my credit card), called the Pavilion hotel. It was at one time the Queen’s residence. We had a suite (of course we did, my credit card), there were 2 pools, a sun pool and a lush pool (shaded). It came with 3 free massages and a river cruise. Now Jordan and I had already been up over 30 hours, and Kat puts us to work. The AIM store is just one block away and she was planning on us being her auditors and inventorying the entire stock. Front of the store and the storage room in the back that holds boxes and boxes of t-shirts, kimonos, mugs, scarves and lots and lots and lots of jewelry. I decided to shop first and put it on facebook for my friends to shop. I figured that was less we had to count. Thanks for all you who shopped, but it really didn’t help, they have a lot of stuff. Kat had an excel spread sheet ready for us (her father’s daughter) complete with clip board. So we began counting EVERY item that was for sale in the entire store. After about 3 hours of this we were having to recount the same 5 medium size shirts at least 4 times because we couldn’t remember the number we were on. It was bad and we revolted. We were starving and tired, we’d been up for 2 days at this six point. We went to the Lone Tree Cafe and had Mexican food. Pulled pork was too spicy for me but the fries were delicious. Tuk-tuked back to the hotel and the girls got their massages. That is a story in itself, you’ll have to ask them, but hilarious none the less. I don’t do massages in foreign countries. I don’t even do them at home unless I’m desperate. I went straight to bed. The End day one.
