Quick Sunday recap

Kat goes to a great church called Nations. They are out of Australia. She’s on the ministry team so goes for the entire day. The Khmer service is in the morning and the English service is in the evening. She does the announcements at both services and usually does a serve project in between. I skipped the Khmer service and went a little later with Ellen.We met her at a Greek restaurant run by an Italian and had Lunch and hit Starbucks on the way to the church. For the afternoon we painted the mural in children’s church. Some members of the Lake City Team came for church in the evening. It was fun painting with Kat, she did the Khmer I did the English. Tomorrow is teaching day one.

Arriving in Phnom Penh

Korea Now that was a long day. Left the house at 3:30 am to drive to Boise, then flew to Seattle, then Vancouver and on to Korea, and barely made my flight to Phnom Penh. So glad I had an aisle seat on the first leg, it was almost 11 hours and it was nice to stand up whenever I wanted to! Of course I couldn't sleep. Kat said DO NOT SLEEP on the flight to Phnom Penh or you won't sleep when you get here at midnight. Well then I had an upgrade and a chair that turned into a bed, so decided to take my chances! I slept fine both places after 28 hours of travel time. Kat was waiting for me at the airport with Burger King fries. I zipped right through the visa process, got my luggage and the customs guy didn't even stop me so I guess it was alright to walk right through! We were home and in bed before midnight. Finishing up in Svay Pak

Wednesday we moto-ed to Svay Pak to finish our last group of girls sewing. What I found interesting was God can change our hearts off of judgement mode. I remember the first day, terrified as I rode. The dirt, the filth, the trash, poverty all along the sides of the road. Did I mention the trash? As we rode by this morning I thought, there is that little family with the little boy getting their wares out to sell. As I looked up I thought I bet they live above their business. Their little shop is a corrugated roof with a dirt floor, maybe a tarp hanging from a tree. They sell bicycle tires. That's all they have. They are very organized by size, and color type. They are cooking their breakfast on a little bbq in the middle of their space. Why did I not see that before? Kat would always say: "I bought that on the side of the road". Now I get it. I forgot artsy Saturday

Almost forgot about Saturday! Kat signed us up for a fabric printing class at a little art studio called Nowhere Art Studio. (Instagram lollipark). She is from South Korea and has an art studio in downtown Phnom Penh. She is extremely creative and teaches all sorts of mixed media class. This one was on Block carving and fabric printing. We carved a design on a piece of rubber that resembled an eraser. I remember doing something similar on a rubber backed block in elementary school. That was when they allowed children to have dangerous tools in art class in the 60’s. It was fun we learned a lot about positive and negative space and thinking backwards. We also mixed paints and printed. I really wish I had not gotten rid of my braver on CDA shop and swap! We block printed a dish towel with our carvings. It’s kind of fun just to do normally daily activities with her. Her job is really stressful and it’s so important for her to get to do some fun and creative things, especially with her mom...
